DERBY!

Oh, what a day! Kentucky Derby 2012 was a lot of work, but an absolute blast. If you couldn’t make it to the Derby, don’t worry! I’ve got your recap right here.

I had the difficult job of covering the red carpet and interviewing celebrities. Poor, me. :)

Even though I bet on several horses (cough, 10 to be exact) and didn’t win a dime, I also didn’t lose much. “I’ll Have Another” took home the crown!

LEX 18′s award-winning coverage kicked off Friday night with me at the Barnstable Brown party. The star-studded event that features celebrities from Hollywood and beyond in the Bluegrass, all their to party with a purpose: to raise money for Diabetes research. And of course, to pre-game for the big race!

Apparently I even made it on NBC sports coverage – a friend in Oklahoma snapped the above pic of me interviewing Aaron Rodgers! And yes, he’s just as dreamy in person!

A few notables I interviewed: Joey Fatone – who I adore! Check out this clip from our interview…and how I show him an old-school throw back from when I met him in 1999! ha!

I loved meeting E!’s Catt Sadler! What a beautiful person! And, she was SO sweet!

Although Ashton Kutcher gave me the cold shoulder, I got to meet others that made up for it!

Mutt Strut!

The time is almost here – this SATURDAY is Lexington Humane Society’s Mutt Strut! LEX 18 News has a team that will be walking to raise money for homeless animals. We are asking for YOUR help!

Ever wonder about what kind of a difference your money really makes? Trust me, it does…but if my word isn’t enough, listen to Buffy’s story. Click here to read more.

Hello!  It’s me, Buffy, and I wanted to thank everyone for their support this past week.  The hundreds of LHS animals and I truly appreciate your kind thoughts and generosity.

Before I came to LHS, I lead a life of loneliness, neglect, and pain.  My sad, former life was obvious as I was covered in gigantic mats of hair from head to toe, so much so, the staff could not even determine if I was a boy or a girl.  I was in so much pain that I could hardly move.  Thankfully LHS was there for me and four man-hours and over five pounds of shaved mats later, I emerged from my restful sleep a beautiful, young lady.

This past week has been a whirlwind and I’ve been a busy girl getting ready for my debut at Mutt Strut.  I’ve been on medication for a nasty ear infection and another round of antibiotics to help heal my skin.  I also had surgery for a prolapsed gland in my right eye, which was caused from constant eye irritation due to my severe mats.  Fortunately I’ve made a fantastic recovery, am receiving great medical care, lots of delicious food and of course tons of TLC.

I’ve heard the staff talking about me and my habits, and I must admit everything they say is true—I love attention and treats, but what doggie doesn’t?  I like relaxing on my bed and enjoy several blissful naps a day.  I don’t mind having puppy or kitty friends, rather I enjoy company!   And yes, I am a super sweet dog that deserves an amazing home.

With your help, we can continue to raise money for other LHS animals like me who deserve a second chance.  YOU CAN HELP by sharing my story and making a donation to my page today – every dollar will make a difference!

A big thank you for your support!

Will you help me be the best Mutt Strut Spokes-Dog ever?  Please, DONATE NOW and help me reach my goal of $8,000.  Every dollar makes a difference!

Or, if you would like to walk in the event yourself, you can! It’s not too late…

Sweet Blessings Fundraiser!

You  may remember the first segment I did in my series, “Making a Difference,” featuring the non-profit, Sweet Blessings. (video below).  It was started by Ashley Gann…she bakes cakes for children who may not ever get a birthday celebration, much less a cake! The impact her work is having on our community’s children is unbelievable.

Fashion for Paws – 1 week away!

We are just a little over a week away from the big event – Fashion for Paws!

Thank you to all who have donated – I’ve officially raised more money for the Humane Society than I did my first year as a reporter. Right now, I’ve raised just over $20,000 for the homeless animals of the DC area. THANK YOU to all who have donated!

Looking forward to the big event – I’ll be walking down the runway wearing a dress by Nicole Miller (yes!) and my best accessory – will be my friend Peter’s chihuahua (pictured above). How adorable, seriously?! Can’t wait to see what outfit the pup will be dressed in!

Years past – I’ve walked with Fred, my friend Barb & Josh’s bulldog and Jarhead, my parents chocolate lab! (pictured below)

Still want to donate? Much obliged! You can throw cash my way until April 13th at 5pm! Donate here!

Countdown to Derby!

With Keeneland here – spring is in the air…and the Kentucky Derby is less than a month away! LEX18 goes all out for our award-winning Derby coverage. And the plan is here!

I’m on celebrity beat – asking the important question – “what are you wearing?!”

In preparation for Derby – the wonderful ladies at Bella Rose are helping me pick out dresses for the big day! I’ll be covering the Barnstable Browns party the night before, the exclusive party attended by celebrities! For that party – I’m choosing between these two dresses…

And for Derby – these are my options.

But the most important part of the Derby – is of course, the hat. The shops at Keeneland are topping off my outfit with a fabulous piece from Christine Moore Millinery! This is a sample of the one I’ll be wearing…

I cannot wait to cover my second Derby..#138! It’s going to be a blast! If you have never been, add it to your Bucket List. It’s a must-see! And if you are going, be sure to stop by Bella Rose Style on Rose Street to get the perfect dress for the big day!

It’s almost time…

Ahhh, spring is here… the sun is out…the snow is gone…and Keeneland is almost here!

Opening day is Friday. I am just so excited – I can’t stand it.

If you’ve never been to Keeneland – add it to your bucket list. While Derby is something everyone should experience, it’s quite a commitment. Keeneland is much more laid-back, stress free, and easy-breezy. At $5 to get in the door you can’t beat it. The track is gorgeous and you’ll fall in love.

See you at the races!

Congrats SweatLex!

The GORGEOUS ladies of SweatLex have so much to be proud of – they’ve successfully opened a fantastic fitness studio that’s better than any workout I’ve ever experienced. No lie. They recently had their grand opening and it was a blast.

I truly cannot say enough about this ah-may-zing workout. Crew class will kick your butt (60 minutes of rowing!) and Pure Cardio – 60 minutes, 75 minutes or 90 minutes- of calorie-torching workouts. If you haven’t tried SweatLex, trust me, sign up! Your first class is free! And the more you do it, the more you love it, because the results will speak for themselves!
